To live small and rent free

Of course, this is a blog about smaller scale items, and while reading the morning news, both in the paper and online this morning, I came accross an article I found very interesting.  While I am not one to appreciate a small living space, this seems like a wonderful idea compared to my mortgage every month.    An architect in Beiking created a mobile Egg home which he resides in on the sidewalk. 

Just imagine giving up everything in your house from your furniture, to most of your wardrobe.  I may have this fact wrong, since I am a woman and I love clothing and could probably fill about three of these "eggs" with just my clothing, or perhaps even just my shoes.  In fact, now that I consider it, this really doesn't look all too bad.  From the outside of course, that is a different story.  However, think of it, a rent free mortgage free like in a small portable

bubble.  Now of course, I am not saying this is the life for me.  While I love miniatures, I prefer to live in a larger, stable house where I can fit all my miniatures and clothing! 

I can see it now, it is the year 2381 and you travel to earth to find everyone in an egg like this.  It seems like something straight out of a science fiction futuristic movie.

Featured in the Traveling Miniaturist shop

Hello and happy Monday!

Today, I will be featuring some items being sold in my etsy shop made by yours truly. 

Currently I believe I am on a sweet kick.  When I was driving through Chicago yesterday, I discovered I was craving cupcakes.  Passing a ton of bakeries is hard to do when craving cupcakes.  However, I was good, and I did not make a stop anywhere and even passed up on dessert last night.  I know!  Something must be wrong!

Anyways, I have decided to put my desire for sweets into my focus for my etsy shop by making micro mini earrings featuring all kinds of delicious sweets and treats!

These little tasty treats are my micro mini chocolate chip cookies.  They are 100% handmade out of polymer clay and of course have hand painted chocolate chips making each cookie unique and one of a kind.  I then affix these little sweet treats onto small sterling silver posts.  I make these in many different cookie types and cupcakes!  Come check out the Traveling Miniaturist etsy store to get your sweets!

I am thinking a collection may be in the works, an earring of the month perhaps.  Each earring set being a different treat.  And don't worry, for those of you that have a guilty conscience, I make fruit slice earrings for the healthier folks out there.  There is something for everyone!

Todays (not so small) miniature

Today, instead of doing the normal drab thing for lunch and grabbing a Cup O' Soup from the local gas station downtown and sitting in my office doing the crossword puzzle and downing my noodles in water, I decided to do something different.  My parents are in visiting from Vegas, and they took me to this place called Sultan's Market.  If you are from Chicago, you have probably heard of it, but if not, it is a vegetarian restaurant with the most awesome salad bar.  They have everything from raw veggies to sumptuous Mediterranean cuisine.  You can visit them here: http://chicagofalafel.com/.  If you are in the Chicago area and are looking for somewhere great to eat, try out the Sultan's Market.

Anyways, back to my original point.  So on my way to the market, I was stuck in horrid traffic.  Of course, being the person I am, I was distracted by everything around me.  Bucktown in Chicago is a place full of artsy stores, little cafe's, and awesome record shops.  Out of the corner of my eye, while sitting at a six point intersection around Milwaukee, Damen, and North, I saw this little cafe.

I am not sure what the name of the cafe was, but I am pretty sure, after 20 minutes of research online and the medieval phone book, the name is not Miniature animal.  This being a blog about miniatures, I couldn't let this pass without a photo and a mention.  It course, it is not your usual miniature, or small item, but it does include the word in it.  Also, I know my photo does not do it justice, but there are awesome fair like paintings featuring retro designs and bright colors.
